Description

This one has been stewing since I was, like, eight or something! Mind you, I only recently connected the idea to Moscow. That bit came about with the Russian concept of the Third Rome, even though Russia had never been a part of the Roman Empire. So, I decided to throw them in for fun.

In 452, the Hunnic King Attila, the "Scourge of God", invaded Italy, intent on gaining the hand of Justa Grata Honoria, the elder sister of the Western Emperor Valentinian III. Having already decimated the Eastern Empire and the Western province of Gaul, Attila threatened to put all of Italy to the torch.

In response, Valentinian sent three envoys to Attila; among them was Pope Leo I. Surprisingly, he offered the hand of Honoria and her dowry in exchange for Attila's baptism and conversion to Christianity. He also proposed a union between the Huns and the Romans. Attila, seeing this as an easy way to win Honoria’s hand, sarcastically christened himself King Amadeus (Love of God) of the Huns. To seal the deal, Leo crowned Amadeus as Emperor of the North. The Pope proudly proclaimed that the Three Empires of Rome now reflected the Trinitarian Nature of God. Most of the Huns accepted this, viewing their Sky God Tengri and the Judeo-Christian God to be similar in their heavenly domains.

The new Emperor Amadeus was charged by Pope Leo to build “a city worthy of Christ.” Such a location would obviously be based of Rome and Constantinople, the Two Romes. To complete the Roman Trinity, Amadeus and Honoria returned to their Hunnic base in the Hungarian Plain and began searching for a place with seven hills. They found one in the far north, on the River Moskva. This would be the site of the Third Rome, the Holy Spirit in the Greater Roman Empire, as Rome was the Father and Constantinople was the Son.

It would take many years before this city would reflect Rome’s splendor, however, as the Huns themselves were only nomads. The greater work would be left to Amadeus and Honoria’s son, the second Northern Roman Emperor, Ellac...
